I was 47. On the outside, my life looked pretty good. I had made the American dream for myself on the outside...
But inside? I was exhausted every day -- and secretly wondering if I could keep up the pace of work and life. I was overwhelmed and tired -- and knew deep down I needed more than extra sleep.
So one day I stumbled upon the measures for burnout and compassion fatigue in my well-being research.
And the rest as they say is history...
Because I realized that I had them. And, I knew that no matter how much I studied the science and strategy behind optimized well-being (or thriving, flourishing, or whatever you might prefer to call it) I could no longer run away from the fact that I needed more than just self-care to live an optimal life -- I needed the power of connection and compassion to heal me from them.
So that is the day I decided to make a well-being ultimatum with myself. I would later write a book on how I did it, and today I teach leaders, educators, teams and organizations how to use the framework to protect themselves -- and those they lead -- from burnout and compassion fatigue so that they can truly thrive.
